Have you experienced a time in your life when just as you thought everything was going swimmingly, or at least the best it could be, everything began to fall apart?
Your job suddenly became impossible for no apparent reason. You hated going to work. Your family became unreasonable. You hated going home. Your friends and colleagues thought you were becoming a bit weird. You were always anxious. Your heart raced constantly. Your adrenal glands were ‘on’ all of the time, causing you to shake. You couldn’t sleep and when you managed to snatch a few moments of sleep, you had bad dreams. You started having panic attacks. No peace to be found anywhere. No contentment. No joy. No love. No belonging. You thought you were going insane!
In a panic you rushed to your doctor who diagnosed depression, extreme anxiety, and prescribed anti-depressants. They didn’t work. They numbed your mind for a bit but you were always in a fog. So you stopped taking them.
No-one around you seemed to know what was happening to you. They were worried. They tried to be supportive. You didn’t like their fussing. You withdrew. More and more. Isolation became the only way you could find peace for awhile. But the psychological pain remained. Became harder to bear. Perhaps you numbed yourself with something else? Alcohol, marijuana, heroin – anything to kill the pain. Or did you just fall into a heap? Could not go on any more. Stepped out of society. Or sadly, out of the world.
Earth is a school onto which each of us has chosen, queued even, to incarnate to learn about coping with emotions. And don’t we have plenty of opportunities to experience emotions, to practise them, to become skilled at using them to manipulate others? The trouble is we are bombarded by them, totally overwhelmed by them, and our lives often become unbearable.
Western culture doesn’t acknowledge this, unlike eastern religions and their philosophies, so we are forced to go down the winding and perilous road of western medicine when we don’t ‘fit the mold’. Oh the damage to our frail souls!
But earlier in our lives our Higher Mind/Higher Self/Higher Soul, or whatever term you are comfortable with, tried to influence us to follow a specific ideal or path. We often ignored these thoughts and carried on with what we were doing. Never one to give up on us, our Higher Soul offered us many opportunities to make changes; to look at things differently, to open ourselves to new and more loving and compassionate ways of thinking and living; to be less reactive and aggressive, to be kinder to ourselves and others. We generally ignored these also, especially if we were stubborn and determined in the way of life we had chosen.
You see we think that we are in control of our lives. But we are not! We are spiritual beings having a physical life, not the other way around. Our Higher Soul is in control. Whether you can get your head around this or accept it or not is immaterial. Belief is not required. However, when we ignore this level of support, direction, guidance and love, there will come a time when we are forced to listen. And that is when our lives start to fall apart, because much of what we have built up, have believed in, have fought for, now must be let go.
We are not aware of course that this change will be for the better, so we hang on, we dig our fingernails into the wall while we bang our heads against it and wail. Through our ignorance, we have separated ourselves from the very part of us that can help; that knows us, that understands us, that supports us, that loves us.
From a metaphysical point of view, all depression comes from separation; separation from the path we chose before we came into this life; separation from soul, separation from God.
Is it time now for you to think about reconnecting? Coming back to your centre? Going inwards to find the real you? Regaining your true and authentic power? Are you ready?
If so,
find a quiet place to sit
turn off your digital devices
close your eyes and just breathe
inhale slowly from the depth of your abdomen until your lungs are full, then
exhale slowly until your lungs are empty
feel the coolness of the air as it is drawn into your nostrils
feel the warmth of the air as it is released
continue breathing slowly
maintain your awareness on your nostrils, feeling the changes in breath temperature
feel your heart rate begin to slow
feel your body relax
feel peace expanding within you
your mind is calming, returning to its natural state
when you are ready, take your awareness, your focus, within
be still, be aware
ask your Higher Soul for help
it is waiting for your call.
